FINCA DRC is currently on a route to transform its business. Traditionally it has been operating as a microfinance institution, but now has the strong ambition to become a leading financial institution for the unbanked in DRC. To support this ambition FINCA has started with various initiatives and projects, many of which are related to alternative delivery channels, electronic payments and new savings and credit products. 


The project manager is the person responsible for management and delivery of a portfolio of projects within FINCA DRC, from conception to development, implementation and handover to the business.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Project Management

  • Responsible for management and delivery of projects assigned to him/her in terms of scope, time and budget

  • Keeps track of all phases of the project lifecycle and monitors milestone completion

  • In collaboration with the Project Executive and potentially other business units coordinates the collection, analysis and documentation of business requirements

  • Develop and maintain project documents, e.g. project brief, project initiation, project planning, change requests, etc

  • Supports project stakeholders in reviews, analysis and documentation of systems, processes and procedures impacted by the project, including workflows, process maps, work instructions etc

  • Ensures that effective project risk management is in place

  • Coordinates interaction and communication among project stakeholders, e.g. Business, Operations, IT, Marketing

  • Organize regular meetings with Project Team to monitor and discuss project progress


    Project Governance

  • Ensures implementation of clear project governance structure through use of standard PMBoK based project management methodology;

  • Set up and coordinate the project board and project team;

  • Chair the project board and project team meetings;

  • Secure necessary acceptance and approval of project plans, project documents, project briefs etc from the Project Executive and other relevant stakeholders;

  • Manage the project board’s performance of project tasks;

  • Organize regular meetings with Project Board to report on project progress on time, budget, scope and risks & issues

  • Regularly reports to the Management Board on the complete portfolio of projects in terms of time, budget, scope and risks & issues

  • Ensure proper hand-over of project deliverables to the business and project closure, including evaluation


    Supervisory Responsibilities:   

    No direct reports. The project manager will rely on resources from other business units for the delivery of the projects.



  • Strong time management skills; e.g. planning, prioritizing and monitoring skills

  • Excellent understanding of project governance and its application

  • Financial acumen; e.g. financial planning and building a business case

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to direct and support others appropriately, e.g. for stakeholder management

  • Good analytical skills, e.g. for requirements gathering and analysis

  • Robust understanding of risk management in project context



    Project Management, e.g. Prince2, APM, PMI, CSM etc.

    Tertiary education, e.g. post-graduate, university


    Education and / Experience:                              

    Previous working experience as a project manager, preferably in a bank or other financial institution or in a payments related industry (e.g. mobile money)


    Language Skills:

    Proficient level of French and English for the business environment


    Computer Skills :   

    Good understanding of IT environments, preferably related to banking and payments
